We have recently received many concerns and comments regarding various aspects of BrownDust 2.
I sincerely apologize for the worry and disappointment these issues have caused.
In this Developer Note, I would like to walk you through the key topics behind these discussions, detailing how these issues occurred and our plans for future improvement.

Regarding Burst Improvements

Regarding Burst Balance Adjustments

The four costumes where the Burst effect upgrade order was rearranged without numerical buffs are
New Hire Nebris, Homunculus Lathel, Ocean Vanguard Luvencia, and Naive Lady Elise.
This adjustment was made after comprehensively reviewing actual usage data for Burst skills.
We determined that these costumes were already performing at a high level, so we adjusted their unlock sequence while maintaining their overall performance.
Unlike systems like Potentials, where you can select and prioritize specific abilities to upgrade, Burst requires sequential upgrades (Burst 1 → Burst 2 → Burst 3).
Because of this structure, we placed noticeable, high-impact features—such as expanded skill range or additional hits—at Burst Level 1, while moving numerical boosts like ATK increases to later levels.
In short, our intention was to ensure that costumes feel strong and effective starting at Burst Level 1 rather than requiring Burst Level 3 to be viable.
This was meant to encourage players to strategically invest Spark of Rampage across a wider variety of characters for a more satisfying and rewarding experience.
We will continue to monitor performance trends for each costume's Burst balance and include them in the costume balance adjustments we conduct every half-anniversary.

Regarding Refinement and Burst

The Burst system was originally designed to mitigate performance gaps in combat caused by Refinement.
However, looking at how progression ultimately reverts back to Refinement issues even after upgrading Burst, we recognize that Burst alone did not effectively solve this underlying problem.
We take full responsibility for not thoroughly examining what issue we were attempting to solve when designing Burst, and whether our approach was actually effective.
Despite adding a new progression element, we failed to deliver the meaningful change and enjoyment you expected, and caused confusion regarding our direction through repeated modifications.
For this, we want to sincerely apologize.
Moving forward, rather than remaining just a patch-up for Refinement issues, Burst will be improved into an independent system focused on its own distinct progression and tactical decision-making.
Separately, we will re-examine current issues with Refinement from the perspective of revamping the system itself.
During this process, our top priority will be ensuring that the time and resources you have invested in Refinement are not undermined.
We will share more concrete plans through broadcasts or Developer Notes as soon as details take shape.

Regarding Spark of Rampage Availability

Previously, we took a conservative approach to Spark of Rampage sources because we believed that once player progress in the new Burst system stabilized, competition would revert back to Refinement.
However, as mentioned earlier, moving forward, we intend to develop Burst as a separate, independent growth system rather than a means of compensating for issues with Refinement.
In line with this, we are currently reviewing ways to increase the amount of Spark of Rampage obtainable through in-game content, aiming to complete this during the September updates.
We apologize for causing confusion by failing to clearly define the roles and directions of these two progression systems.
Going forward, we will address the issues of each system separately and improve them in line with their respective goals.

Regarding AI Usage

PV Production Process

Let me first explain the production process of the Master Pack 2 PV.
Storyboard Concept → Concept Art Rough Sketch → Color Grading → Camera Work → Animation → Visual Effects → Compositing → Sound Design → Rendering
As shown above, a single scene is completed through multiple production stages.



Each element is then combined into the final PV format and undergoes an internal review before being released.
There were indeed parts of this process where we received assistance from AI.
We utilize AI when drafting initial storyboards or reviewing ideas, when creating certain background assets or extras, and when developing certain character motions.

First, here is the initial background draft produced using AI, followed by the background illustration retouched and refined based on that draft.


Next, here is an extra character draft created using AI, followed by the retouched and refined version.



Finally, here are some of the character motions developed using AI.



After utilizing AI, the final output is completed through the following process.
Even when AI is utilized, generated drafts are not used as-is; they undergo subsequent retouching and compositing steps to reach the final output.



We want to clarify that this video was not generated solely using AI; in fact, the vast majority of assets were produced manually by hand.
Main characters, emotional facial close-ups, and key scenes are produced manually.
Regardless of this process, presenting a final result of a quality that gave players the impression of being easily generated with AI is unquestionably our fault without excuse, and we sincerely apologize for this.
We'd also like to share the work that was done purely by hand.



Next is the background production process.
For the backgrounds, we utilized 3D modeling, applying painterly texture maps that fit BrownDust 2's signature art style rather than standard 3D textures.

The scene was completed through lighting adjustments followed by final compositing with concept art.

Our biggest oversight in producing this PV was causing players to question whether an official piece of content was generated via "one-click AI."
AI will continue to be used strictly as an auxiliary tool, limited only to necessary areas.
However, what matters more than the tool used is whether the final output reaches the quality standard that BrownDust 2 strives for.
Going forward, rather than focusing solely on our production methods, we will apply much stricter standards to the overall quality and polish of the final product presented to you.

Territory Pack Title Production Process


Let me explain the production process that led to the release of the Territory Pack title art.
While previous Story Packs and Character Packs featured 2D character illustrations for their title art, we used 3D modeling for the Territory Pack to capture the actual atmosphere and feel of the in-game territory.



The images above are the raw 3D models implemented directly in the game.
The background was built using 3D modeling, supplemented with AI assistance, and then completed through additional retouching.



Existing 3D models of helper characters were directly placed onto the retouched background.



This is the retouched image after character placement was completed.



In this process, certain elements—such as the surrounding scenery, character props, and their action poses—did not blend together naturally.
Unfortunately, retouching was wrapped up without sufficiently resolving these issues, ultimately lowering the quality of the final title art.
For the Territory Pack title art, we will re-examine these awkward compositions and release a revised update.
We apologize once again for the inconvenience caused.

Regarding Content Censorship


Pure White Blessing Refithea and Retired Legend Olivier are key examples modified according to regional regulations, while the 3rd Anniversary Justia Title was adjusted based on store guidelines.

Based on these experiences, subsequent assets are designed to align with both regional regulations and store guidelines.
However, the recent adjustments made to some content in Korea do not mean that we intend to apply Korean standards to all regions going forward.
The baseline criteria we commonly apply follow regional laws alongside guidelines from storefronts where we operate, such as Google Play and the App Store.

In particular, platform guidelines can sometimes be stricter than certain regional regulations, and we must comply with them in order to continue providing service through our existing platforms, including mobile stores.
On the other hand, if certain content is allowed by the platform but conflicts with the laws or guidelines of a specific region, we will only adjust the level of expression for that region.

Ultimately, the core issue is that the current review standards of Google Play and the App Store make it difficult to fully preserve the original level of expression that has been part of BrownDust2’s appeal.
Therefore, we are preparing an alternative service model on platforms separate from Google and Apple—such as our standalone PC client and external storefronts—to preserve our original level of expression as much as possible.
Naturally, we plan to set this up so that you can directly link and use the accounts you have been using on existing platforms.
We are currently evaluating concrete plans for this and working hard so that we can present tangible results around our 3.5th Anniversary.

While finding alternative ways to deliver our original level of expression is important, we will also continue seeking ways to maximize BrownDust 2's unique charm and creativity within permissible boundaries—much like the recent Sunny Inn Hand Helena costume's steamed buns.

We sincerely apologize once again for causing concern and disappointment through the various changes regarding our content maturity levels.
We know the explanations provided in this Developer Note won't instantly resolve every doubt or disappointment, but we promise to always ask ourselves whether our work lives up to BrownDust2's standards before presenting it to you.
Once again, we sincerely apologize to all of you who were disappointed by these issues.

We will continue doing our best to find the right balance between bold, appealing expression and stable service.

- In Taros Tactical Manual, each stage must be cleared using only the designated starting SP and the temporary allies provided.
- Upon winning each battle, Masters will receive a small amount of Gold as a clear reward depending on the difficulty, and one bingo tile will be completed.
- Win battles to complete bingo and earn a variety of mission rewards!

4. Tower of Salvation

■ Schedule for Season

1. Master Pack 2 Update

- Master Pack 2 'Way of the Demon' has been added.
Story

Following Mamonir's advice to seek out Levia, Master and Justia's group arrives at Ghenar's Colosseum.
While searching for Levia in the Colosseum, Master and Justia's group discover that a map leading to the entrance of Paradise is hidden in Toire's Casino, and that the winner of Ghenar's "The Strong" Tournament will receive an invitation to Toire's Casino as a prize.
Thus, Master and Justia's group enter the tournament to obtain the invitation to the casino, and Levia finally appears before them.
However, when Master and Justia's group ask Levia for help, she tells them that she has no intention of helping them, and that if they want something, they should claim it themselves in the way of a demon....



- Master Pack 2 will be unlocked by clearing all the main quests of Master Pack 1.

1-1. Full Voice Acting Support for Master Pack 2

- The main quests of Master Pack 2 will feature full voice acting in Korean and Japanese.

2. Season Event "Untamed" Update

- Six episodes of the new pickup character Aquila's personal story "Untamed" will be added after maintenance on August 26.
- Event Period for "Untamed": After the August 26 maintenance - before the September 9 maintenance.
- You can participate in the Untamed Season Event by tapping the "Season Event" logo on the right side of the Home Screen.
- The Untamed Season Event consists of the following activities: Event Story / Normal Battles / Challenge Battles / Fiend Hunter / Event Shop.
- You can purchase various items at the Event Shop with event currency acquired from each content.



1) Untamed Season Event Story
Story
Aquila wandered the back alleys, throwing punches to stave off the boredom of her life.
One day, Aquila accidentally crippled one of Levia's slave gladiators and was imprisoned in an underground dungeon.
However, Levia, who had noticed Aquila's strength, offered to make her a new slave gladiator instead of executing her.
Thus, Aquila entered the competition to select the strongest as a slave gladiator, and began defeating one opponent after another who stood in her way.
- Episodes unlock sequentially as you watch them.

2) Untamed Season Event Battle Guide
- Event battles are divided into normal battles that are easy to challenge and challenging battles that require consideration of growth and strategy.
- Upon entering the battle screen, you can check the recommended combat power for each stage, your current account's combat power, challenge objectives, and rewards for completing objectives.
- Use the buttons at the bottom of the battle entry menu to check monster information or enter the battle.
- Clearing each stage and achieving challenge objectives per battle rewards a certain amount of event currency.
- Entering a battle requires AP. Free AP is charged every day at 12 AM (UTC), and you can purchase additional Paid AP with Dias in the Event Shop.
- Winning a battle consumes 1 AP, and you receive rewards. If you lose or forfeit, AP is not consumed.
- If you complete all challenge tasks in a particular stage, you can use the quick battle feature for that stage, instantly obtaining the rewards.
- In cleared stages, you can initiate Repeated Battles and earn rewards with each victory.

3) Fiend Hunter Guide
- The preparation period for hunting the giant monster "Chimera of Resentment (Wind)" will be opened.
- You can access Fiend Hunter by tapping the "Fiend Hunter" button at the bottom of the main Season Event screen.
- Fiend Hunter Hunting Preparation Period: After the August 26 maintenance - September 2, 11:59 PM (UTC).
- Fiend Hunter Hunting Period: September 3, 12:00 AM (UTC) - September 9, 02:59 PM (UTC).
Chimera of Resentment (Wind)
A single living Fiend, yet at the same time, multiple Fiends that are slowly dying.
Its true nature is that of a weaponized chimera, forcibly fused from many Fiends by Warlocks in ancient times.
Every time it opens its mouth, the screams of different Fiends—each from a different species—merge into a horrifying cacophony.
Where pain, resentment, and sorrow once raged, only an eternal hatred for the Warlocks who created it remains.
Because of this, it howls with murderous rage at all humanoid beings, regardless of race.

4) Untamed Event Shop Information
- You can purchase various items at the Event Shop with event currency acquired from each content.
- Key items available in the Event Shop include the following:

* In addition to the above products, various items necessary for growth will be available.

- The Paid AP purchased in the Event Shop will reset once the Season Event ends. Please use all remaining AP before the reset.
- The Event Shop will remain open for 14 days after the Untamed Season Event ends, during which you can purchase items using remaining event currency.
* The Sunny Smile Season Event Shop currently in progress will remain open for 14 days after the event ends.
You can use any remaining event currency during this period to claim rewards.

5) Season Event Bonus Costumes
- If you own a designated event Costume, you can obtain additional event currency at a certain rate from specific Season Event content.
- The Costumes eligible for bonuses during the Season Event from August 26 to September 9th are as follows:



- If you own multiple Costumes that grant participation bonuses, the additional event currency will be combined and rewarded based on the number of Costumes owned.

3. Slice of Life - Master Pack 2

- New Slice of Life Stories featuring the Master Pack 2 characters will be added.
- Discover a different side of Aquila and Levia through their new Slice of Life Stories.
- You can view them from the Mini Season Event or the Story menu on the Home Screen.
- Special SD illustrations will be displayed and can be used as an ID card background.

4. Blade's Special Skin Update

- A special skin, “Tender Dream Blade,” which allows you to change the appearance of the Young Lady Blade Costume will be added.
- The Blade Special Skin can be purchased from the Skin tab on the right side of the Home screen.
- Upon purchasing the special skin, you will additionally obtain an avatar outfit.
- If you own the special skin without the Costume, you can equip the avatar in Fantasia Square and set the standing illustration and skill cutscenes on the Home Screen.
- When equipped, the skin changes the standing illustration, skill cutscenes, and SD character appearance of the original Costume, and adds new field idle motions not seen in the original character.
* Special skins do not include Secret Event features.
* No additional combat performance is granted. (Uses the original Costume’s skills.)
- After obtaining the special skin, a “Skin” button will appear above the SD character of the appropriate Costumes under Companion Tab > Costume Tab > Costume Selection (bottom).
Tapping this button opens the skin-change pop-up.

5. New Rapport Costume Update

- After the August 26 maintenance, you will be able to begin Rapport with Savage Warrior Aquila and Night of Jealousy Levia.
- Build Rapport with Savage Warrior Aquila and Night of Jealousy Levia through conversations and uncover their hidden stories.
- Complete their personal story to receive heartfelt keepsakes.
- We hope you enjoy the special stories they have to share.
* The Rapport content is only available if you own the corresponding costume.


6. Battle Phase Presentation Added

- A new Battle Phase presentation has been added with the Master Pack 2 update.
- Enjoy the dynamic battles of Master Pack 2 with the new presentation.
* When transitioning to a new phase, the battle starts from the allied turn following the turn in which the phase transition occurred.
* The boss's buffs and debuffs do not carry over.
* Death Time does not occur during phase battles against bosses.
* If you abandon the battle or restart from the beginning during a phase battle, the phase will be reset, and the battle will start from the beginning.
* If you continue the battle by spending Gold, retrying the battle will start from the point at which you chose to continue.

7. Practice Battle & Burst Skill Trial Features Added

- A Burst Skill trial feature has been added to Practice Mode, allowing you to try out the Burst Skill of each costume.
ㄴ Burst Skills are set to Stage 3 in Practice Mode, allowing you to try out Stage 3 Burst Skills even if your Costume's Burst Stage is below Stage 3.
ㄴ A Practice Mode has also been added to Guild Raid.
- Costumes for which Burst Skills are prohibited cannot use the Burst Skill trial feature in Practice Battles.
- If you save the costume action order settings during a Practice Battle and load those settings in Normal Mode, the settings will be loaded with the highest Burst Skill stage you have acquired.

8. Burst System Improvements

- An exclusive cut-in illustration is now displayed when a Burst Skill is activated, with enhanced cut-in effects depending on the Burst Stage.
- Skill effects are enhanced according to the Burst Stage.
ㄴ Dialogue text is displayed along with the Burst Skill cut-in, with exclusive dialogue for each Burst Stage.
- Icons indicating whether a Burst Skill is being used and its Burst Stage have been added to the action order portraits.
- When selecting a Burst Stage for a skill during battle, you can view the skill text with the effects of the selected Burst Stage applied.
- A Burst button has been added to the Costume Info screen. By clicking each Burst Stage button, you can view the skill text with the corresponding Burst effects applied.
- The Costume Enhancement Preview UI now displays skill text with the effects of each Burst Stage applied.
- The effects of skills modified by Burst Skills have been improved to enable more strategic battles, including effects such as increased hit counts and expanded attack ranges.
* With the Burst system improvements, all Burst Stages will be reset and the resources spent on them will be refunded.
* Support Costumes registered by friends or guild members will also be removed from their respective slots.

9. Burst Skill Rebalancing

- Along with the Burst system improvements, 25 Costumes with existing Burst Skills will undergo rebalancing.
- Please refer to the table below for the Costumes subject to rebalancing and the changes to their Burst Skill effects.

10. Soul Wager Trial Season 2 Update

- Soul Wager Trial Season 2 will be updated.
- 9 new Unit pieces will be added.

* Alea Chips obtained during the Soul Wager Trial Season will be removed when the regular season begins.
* Please make sure to use all of your Alea Chips before the official season begins.
- The cost increase interval for refreshing the Shop list will be changed.
ㄴ Previous: The cost increases by 1 every 4 refreshes.
ㄴ New: The cost increases by 1 every 5 refreshes.
- The amount of Soul Tokens awarded for each board will be adjusted.


* The amount of Soul Tokens awarded upon defeat will remain unchanged.
- The balance of Unit pieces will be adjusted.
- Detailed balance changes for Unit pieces will be provided in a separate notice.

- The following issues in Soul Wager have been fixed.
ㄴ Fixed an issue where Beachside Justice Michaela's sound was played as Overheat Levia's sound.
ㄴ Fixed an issue where Masquerade Bunny Celia's sound was played as The Curse Celia's sound.
ㄴ Fixed an issue where Archmage Maria's ATK increased without consuming SP.
ㄴ Fixed an issue where Apostle Olivier's Invincibility activated more times than intended.
ㄴ Fixed an issue where Wild Dog Luvencia could gain [Overheat], [Focus], and [Strength] without consuming SP.
ㄴ Fixed an issue where White Cat Rou's effect activated whenever the cooldown elapsed, regardless of whether her attack hit the target.
ㄴ Fixed an issue where Knight of Blood Justia's skill description incorrectly stated that DMG dealt increases by 1% for each Lifesteal Buff possessed.

11. Last Night Achievements and Titles Added

- The maximum score for battle rewards in Last Night will be increased to 50,000,000,000 points.
ㄴ Among the battle rewards, Ancient Crystal and Awakening Elixir will remain unchanged, while only the Gold rewards will be increased.
- New title rewards will be added to Last Night.
ㄴ A new title that can be obtained by reaching a Last Night score of 10,000,000,000 will be added. No additional Last Night titles will be added after this.
- New achievements related to Last Night scores will be added.
ㄴ New score-related achievements will be added beyond 7,000,000,000 points, with a total of 52 new achievement tiers being added.

12. New Mermaid, Achievement, and Stickers Added to Sky Island

- A new mermaid, Blanche, will be added to Sky Island, along with the related achievement "Legend of the Skies.

- Two stickers that can be obtained by completing the "Secret of the Skies" and "Legend of the Skies" achievements will be added.
ㄴ All Masters who have already completed the "Secret of the Skies" achievement by successfully catching Flavia will also be able to obtain the corresponding sticker.

13. Google Play Games Service Added

- Google Play Games Services will be added to the Google Play Store version.
- Through this service, you can check your achievements, point progress, product information, and more.
- The existing game login method will remain unchanged, and a PGS (Play Games Services) login will additionally take place when you access the game.
- You can link or unlink PGS and change your account through the Google Play Games app.

- An issue where, after the August 13 update, the desktop shortcut icon for the BrownDust2 PC Client launcher may not update properly in some PC environments.
ㄴ To fix this, right-click the desktop launcher shortcut and go to Properties > Web Document > Change Icon > Browse, then select the BrownDust II.exe file.
The app icon should update properly from the next update onward.
ㄴ The BrownDust II.exe file can usually be found at: [C:\Neowiz\Browndust2\]
- An issue where the stats of the Fiend Hunter gear Viper Whip UR/SR items, available from the Season Event Shop, were applied incorrectly.
ㄴ The stats will be adjusted to match the performance level of Fiend Hunter gear from other seasons.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the second extension of today’s regular maintenance.
The extension is being carried out to fix an issue with the UR/SR Fiend Hunter gear Viper Whip, where its stats were incorrectly applied as Grade IV instead of the intended Grade III.

During the correction process, we were able to properly update the stats for newly obtained Viper Whip items from the Season Event Shop.
However, we confirmed that items already owned by players were not updated and remained at the incorrect Grade IV stat values.

Additional work is now being performed to ensure that all owned or equipped Viper Whip items are adjusted to the correct Grade III stat values.

We sincerely apologize again for the repeated maintenance extensions and the long wait this has caused.
